High Foolishness Season Pt. II-time is running out!
Halloween-The Devil's Own
Greetings in the name of the LORD!Once again, we are entering a time when the words and warnings of God are cast aside to engage in the foolishness of the "world." What do Christians mean when we talk about the "world?" It is certainly different from the term "earth." There is a very close affiliation between what is meant in the Bible by the terms "the flesh," and "society," or "the world." Defining the flesh will give the greatest insight into "the world."
According to Ray Stedman, it is essentially inherited selfishness, the basic problem manifest in human nature. It is that tendency toward evil in every individual, inherited from Adam. He gained this trait by listening to the voice of the enemy in the Garden of Eden instead of adhering to the voice of God the Creator. Many people would like to blame Eve for giving Adam to eat what God forbid, BUT God gave man freewill, the capacity to determine what to do and when. As the "man in charge," by God's design, Genesis 1: 26, Adam had the authority to correct Eve and not partake. For this reason, all of us, as descendants of Adam, began life with a taint.
Every individual, regardless of background, exposure, or environment is subject to this, it is in the bloodstream of humanity. This is an unpleasant fact that society constantly resists. Man does not want to face this, but, the Word of God bluntly and clearly states it. When the individual, with our tendency to evil, is put together with all the other individuals and their tendency to evil, all these flesh-centered, flesh-governed people make up what is called "the world," where self-interest is the foundation. If it "feels good, looks good, sounds good, tastes good, smells good...," we WANT it, whether it is GOOD FOR US OR NOT.
